Our Friend Is No More
Local residents are being warned to watch out for their pets and livestock by a Udora resident who had an Alpaca destroyed by a bear or cougar.

Living in the country there is always the chance of seeing a wide variety of animals. Some are domesticated like the Llama and Alpaca pictured here or our neighbours horse. We are also blessed with all kinds of wild animals who we occasionally see such as deer, rabbits, raccoons and skunks.
There are also other wild animals that you occasionally hear of someone seeing such as a resident Black Bear that is usually spotted at least once a year cleaning out someones bird feeder or Garbage can.
Up until now that has been the extent of what we have heard about. This past weekend that all changed as the friendly little brown Alpaca in the picture was attacked and killed by possibly a bear or cougar.
Once a playful critter in our neighbours yard our little friend, who has been a joy for us, our Grandchildren and our visitors, will be sadly missed

I am sorry for the lost of your friend. I hope your week gets better and the suspect moves on.
I am so sorry. Alpaca;s are beautiful, harmless, friends.
It's a good idea to take all your animals who live around your house inside a protected place at night. Up here goats are particularly vulnerable to bears; the poor things are usually even staked out and easy prey. At one of my (empty) listings awhile back a young bear had made the dog house his own. That was the cutest bear, but you know it would grow and get ravenous so it needed to move on.
How sad. Likely the creature who did this is lurking around now that they know there is a supply of food. Hope no one else loses a beloved pet.
Kathy,
That certainly is a downside of living in the country. I suppose everyone needs a dog for protection.

We have similar problems down here from mountain lions and coyotes. Sometimes they even make it into suburban subdivisions.
Thaks all for your comments
Hopefully this will help get the word out locally to be careful.
